Stammering

Stammering is when people repeat or stretch out words and sounds when they are talking.  They can also sometimes become blocked where they cannot say the sound and there is often a period of silence while they try to speak.

Stammering can sometimes have a significant impact on a person's life affecting their desire to communicate and interact with people.

My Experience

I have worked with children who stammer for over 10 years.  I worked within the NHS as the clinical lead for stammering and since leaving the NHS I have continued to work with children who stammer offering individualised assessment and therapy.

I love getting to know children and their families and watching them flourish and their confidence grow!

Stammering Groups

Research suggests stammering support groups are a vital part of helping children who stammer to be happy and feel confident.   My experience as a stammering specialist has shown me that once children are aware of their stammer being in a group is so powerful;

  • Children know they are not alone
  • They can speak to other people who 'get it'
  • They can share their thoughts and feelings linked with their stammer
  • Children learn having a stammer is not bad!
